Hello PubCom!

This is feedback regarding your newsletter, that is written in Notion.

But first, a little about me. My name's Ishan Puranik and I'm a 4th Year in your college, a few other things I'm known for in my batch are my blog, my newsletter and my obsession with Notion. Across all my social touch points, I have a cumulative following/audience of over 500 and I’ve now moved to 1-on-1 consulting and development through services like Fiverr and Upwork, and I've been learning about creating written content and Notion for more than 4 years now.

That being said I have a couple of things that I'd like to bring to your attention which if followed, will greatly improve your experience and learning of creating written content online, and also the newsletter itself. I'll divide the feedback by topic.

Writing and Content

At the foremost - great work and initiative. The first step is to be consistent and I can see that you're doing that - well done! The only way to improve quality of content and increase quantity of audience is to publish, analyze and repeat.

Here are some things to look out for to improve the quality of your writing, communicate ideas better and upgrade your content in general.

Curate quotes as per theme

Quote widgets are great for websites and landing pages but not for newsletters and articles. If you're using a quote then make sure it's in line with the theme of the newsletter.

I got this quote while reading your newsletter on boredom:

There is no time for cut-and-dried monotony. There is time for work. And time for love. That leaves no other time. ~ Coco Chanel

As you may guess, this doesn't fit the theme at all.

Moreover, using widgets for things like quotes takes away from the impression you leave with the readers, invest some time in finding the right quote - don't use a shortcut widget.

Write multiple paragraphs not one big block

You've probably seen this photo online.

It's brilliant advice that you can experience yourself, unfortunately it takes a long long time to learn how to write music. The easy alternative: write small sentences.

And break paragraphs often.

Writing long paragraphs of text gets monotonous and draining for the reader. Split your writing into multiple paragraphs and make each paragraph as small as possible.

This is what a lot of writers refer to as ‘’using whitespace”

Use headings and outline content

When you’re writing a newsletter, you’re essentially presenting information. Your goal should be to provide information that is so good that the reader keeps coming back to your newsletter - either to refer to your information again, or to show someone else - this happens when you provide high quality information clearly and accessibly.

In order to present information in a clearer and a more accessible way, use more headings, or capture key pieces of information in quotes or blocks, like this:

Your goal should be to provide information that is so good that the reader keeps coming back to your newsletter.
